I've eaten my way through a lot of Southern towns, and Franklin holds its own against cities twice its size. The restaurants here have personality rooted in Tennessee history and hospitality, but not stuck in it. There's no shortage of contemporary spots either. Whether you're looking for a fancy dinner, a lazy afternoon at a vineyard, or some really good hot chicken, Franklin has an answer.

Here are my top picks for where to eat in Franklin, Tennessee.

Where to Eat & Drink in Franklin

1799 Kitchen & Cocktails 

Tucked inside The Harpeth Hotel, 1799 is the place to go when you want the meal to be the event. The menu leans into locally sourced Southern cuisine with premium cuts, Creole flavors, and twists on classics. With such an extensive whiskey list, you'll be occupied long after dinner. The ambiance is great for date nights, special occasions, or visitors who want a proper Franklin evening.

Pro tip: Happy hour runs Monday–Thursday and Sunday from 3–5pm. 

Amendment XVIII Cocktail Club 

Amendment XVIII Cocktail Club is an experience before you even sit down. Located in an alley off Main Street, this hidden speakeasy caters to serious cocktail enthusiasts, offering craft drinks, knowledgeable bartenders, small plates, and a dimly lit, jazz-infused atmosphere that perfectly captures its Prohibition-era ambiance. It’s a great choice for a date night or anyone who wants to do something a little different.

Where: In the alley at 317 Main St

Pro tip: Use the back entrance to Mellow Mushroom and find the Frankenstein switch on the wall. Flip it, and a green light signals staff to let you in.

Arrington Vineyards 

Arrington Vineyards sits on 95 acres of rolling Tennessee hills and feels a world away from downtown. Spend an afternoon moving between tasting rooms, sampling award-winning wines, and settling into a spot on the lawn with a charcuterie board. On weekends from April through October, live music plays throughout the property. It's an easy yes for wine lovers, couples, or anyone who needs to slow down for a few hours.

Where: 6211 Patton Rd, Arrington (about 20 minutes from downtown Franklin)

Pro tip: You're welcome to bring your own picnic — just leave the outside wine at home.

Gray's on Main 

Set inside an 1876 pharmacy that was carefully restored and reopened in 2013, Gray's on Main is one of those restaurants that earns its reputation on multiple fronts. You'll be impressed by the food, the cocktails, and the ambiance. The menu is Southern-rooted and ingredient-driven, changing with the seasons, while the bar program leans into brandy-inspired cocktails from the golden age of American drinking. Live music plays from the second-floor stage on weekends. Great for foodies, history lovers, and anyone who wants dinner to feel like more than just dinner.

Hattie B's Hot Chicken 

If you haven't had Nashville hot chicken, Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, Franklin's Factory location, is a great place to start. And if you have, you already know why it's on this list. Hattie B's serves bone-in chicken, tenders, and sandwiches with heat levels ranging from Southern (no heat) to the legendary Shut the Cluck Up, its hottest. This joint is fast, casual, and deeply satisfying. It’s a solid choice for families, groups, or anyone who wants something iconic without a reservation.

Where: The Factory at Franklin, 230 Franklin Rd

Pro tip: On weekend mornings, they serve breakfast, including hot chicken and waffles.

Leiper's Fork Distillery 

Leiper's Fork Distillery has been producing small-batch, pre-Prohibition style whiskey from locally sourced grains since 2016. The original distillery sits in a restored 1829 log cabin out in the countryside with tours and tastings available most days. They've since opened House of Spirits on nearby Main Street, where you can explore whiskey flights, cocktails, seasonal food, and live entertainment in a more accessible downtown setting. It’s a must for whiskey lovers and anyone curious about Tennessee's distilling heritage.

Pro tip: The original distillery is closed on Mondays.

Puckett's Restaurant 

Puckett's started as a country store in Leiper's Fork in the 1950s and has grown into one of Franklin's most beloved institutions. The menu covers slow-smoked BBQ, Southern comfort food, and skillet breakfasts, but what really sets it apart is the live music. Songwriter rounds are a regular fixture, and the alumni list of artists who've played its stage reads like a country music who's who. It works for everyone: families, first-timers, and locals who've been coming for years.

Pro tip: Puckett's was voted Best Breakfast in Williamson County for 2025 — worth showing up early.
