Visitors to the McWane Science Center can explore more than six decades of Barbie careers through imaginative, hands-on activities that inspire children to dream and discover all they can become. Barbie You Can Be Anything: The Experience encourages children to create, nurture, solve problems, lead, and seek adventure while checking out careers in science, technology, medicine, aviation, and the arts.
Created by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in partnership with Mattel, the traveling exhibit welcomes visitors with the inspirational story of Barbie creator Ruth Handler, showcases a variety of career dolls from the past six decades, and highlights female role models who have broken boundaries. The exhibit provides families a chance to explore more than 15 careers through hands-on and touchscreen interactives, themed role-play environments, and photo opportunities.
Visitors can pilot an airplane, direct a film, code a robot, climb a rocky mountain, design fashion looks, care for animals, and more while discovering the many ways curiosity can shape the future. Along the way, meet real women throughout history who changed the world through science, leadership, athletics, aviation, medicine, the arts, and beyond.
You Can Be Anything!
The experience features immersive activity zones designed to help children imagine themselves in a wide variety of roles such as:
- Balance on a surfboard as a professional surfer
- Step into the cockpit as a pilot
- Program a robot using beginner coding concepts
- Create fashion designs in a digital studio
- Care for animals as a farm veterinarian
- Explore archaeology, wildlife photography, filmmaking, art, and medicine
Every experience encourages problem solving, creativity, confidence, and hands-on exploration. The exhibit runs through January 10, 2027, and is included as part of the regular ticket to McWane.
